What Is King's Ridge Christian School?
King's Ridge Christian School was founded in 2001 by the Advancement for Christian Education (ACE). ACE, committed to meeting Atlanta's growing demand for academically superior schools based in Christian faith, executed a demographic study and found northwest Fulton County was found to be in most need of this type of education. ACE located 84 acres of property in northwest Fulton County on which to develop the initial project of King's Ridge Christian School. With respect to the agrarian setting, the site plan was developed with natural buffers and placement of buildings to be integrated into the site and to have a minimal impact to the community. A small group of adjacent landowners legally challenged procedural issues on zoning to both the Fulton County Board of Commissioners and King's Ridge Christian School five times between the years of 2001-2004. During this time the School was successfully zoned for a special use permit on three separate occasions in order to build a campus for a K-12 non-denominational college preparatory program. During these years an additional 32 acres were purchased to bring the total parcel of land to 116 acres. Even with the uncertainty about the extent and timing of the permanent site development, King's Ridge Christian School launched and grew. A 53,000 square foot former retail space was located on Main Street in downtown Alpharetta and refurbished to a beautiful interim school facility. This facility was adjacent to the City of Alpharetta Wills Park, which served as a location for both recreational and instructional athletic programs. The School opened on September 4, 2001 with 195 students in grades K-8. The tragic event of 9/11 occurred only a week after Opening Day, but this event immediately contributed towards the bonding of the community of families. Over the next four years the programs of the school grew along with the enrollment.
