What Is Jefferson Park at Dandridge?
In March of 1933, a 283-acre farm known as the “Poor Farm†was purchased by the Jefferson County Commission for the accommodation of the poor who required care. This was the origin of the original nursing home. In 1968, Jefferson County Commission applied for a Hill-Burton Grant to build its 50-bed nursing home to replace the “Poor Farmâ€. The Legacy Building as it is now referred to opened its doors in January of 1969. Since then, additions occurred in 1973 (33 beds), 1987 (20 beds) and under the current administrator Roger Mynatt, the facility expanded again adding 32 more beds in 1995 bringing the total number of beds to 135. In 2004, Jefferson County Nursing Home expanded from an Intermediate Care Facility to a dually certified Skilled Nursing Facility. In 2006, the Board of Directors approved the building of three Green House Homes, each with 10 private rooms/bathrooms, utilizing the Green House philosophy of Culture Change and Person-Centered Care. These were the first Green House Homes in Tennessee. This increased the total bed count to 160 skilled nursing beds. The Grand Opening Ceremony was held on May 6, 2010 featuring Dr. William Thomas, Founder of the Green House philosophy and the elders moved into their new home.
