Jackson Academy is a college preparatory school in Jackson, Mississippi. An independent, nonsectarian school founded in 1959, Jackson Academy is a coeducational independent day school with approximately 1350 students enrolled in K3 through twelfth grade. Jackson Academy is the state's largest independent school. JA is located about 200 miles north of New Orleans, LA and 200 miles south of Memphis, TN. Jackson, the state capital (population 350,000), is home to five colleges, the Mississippi Arts Festival, Civil War battlefield sites, museums, opera, theater, and the International Ballet Competition. Students and faculty enjoy frequent enrichment excursions to such attractions as a means of enlivening and reinforcing classroom learning.
