The International Institute for Nanotechnology (IIN) is the world leader in nanotechnology research and education. Lead by Chad Mirkin and located at Northwestern University, IIN: • Catalyzes and supports world-class interdisciplinary research. • Provides programs that support the translation of new technologies to the marketplace. • Invests in critical infrastructure. • Develops and strengthens mutually beneficial local, national and global collaborations. • Supports educational excellence and professional development at undergraduate, graduate and postdoctoral levels. Today, the IIN represents and unites more than $1 billion in nanotechnology research, educational programs and supporting infrastructure. This includes the collaborative efforts of more than 240 faculty from 32 departments and four schools at Northwestern University, and partnerships with academic institutions in 30 countries, a dozen U.S. federal agencies and 100+ corporations. Since IIN's inception, more than 2,000 products and systems have been commercialized worldwide, and 23 start-up companies have been launched based upon IIN research, attracting more than $1 billion in venture capital funding.
