What Is Intercommunity Action?

Intercommunity Action, Inc. - Interac - is a private, not for profit corporation established in 1969 to meet the human services needs of the residents of "Catchment Area 6A": the Andorra, Roxborough, Manayunk, Wissahickon, East Falls and Nicetown neighborhoods of Northwest Philadelphia. Most of Interac's services are located in these neighborhoods, but today, Interac serves residents of other parts of Philadelphia and the suburban counties as well. Interac's more than 300 staff provide a wide variety of programs that focus on our mission of "helping people cope with the problems and stresses of daily living and helping individuals achieve maximum potential and quality of life. Interac addresses the concerns of children, youth, adults and the aging through the provision of programs which deal with age related challenges, mental health and substance abuse problems and developmental disabilities." More than two dozen programs - residential, outpatient, day services, and case management - have been developed to carry out this mission. Structurally, Interac is composed of three service divisions - Aging, Developmental Disabilities and Behavioral Health Services - supported by a central Administrative unit. The Agency is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, the majority of whom live or work in Catchment Area 6A.Send mail to admin@pond.com with questions or comments about this web site.
