What Is Immigrant Legal Resource Center?

The mission of the ILRC is to work with and educate immigrants, community organizations, and the legal sector to continue to build a democratic society that values diversity and the rights of all people. The ILRC works in three major programmatic areas. First and foremost, the ILRC conducts community education, outreach, leadership training, civic engagement and policy and advocacy work so that immigrants can have a voice in changing the laws and policies that affect their lives. Secondly, ILRC focuses on the widespread needs of low-income immigrants and refugees who encounter legal and other barriers as they strive to establish productive lives in their new homes. Third, and to accomplish the second, ILRC focuses on the needs of community-based and pro-bono advocates who struggle—with limited resources and expertise—to provide assistance to the immigrants who come to them for help. By bringing ILRC’s legal expertise and resources on immigration issues to these community-based advocates, we are able to maximize their impact on behalf of countless immigrants across the country—newcomers from every corner of the globe who settle in every state of the country.
