What Is Hunter Medical Research Institute?

The Hunter Medical Research Institute (HMRI) is an internationally-recognised health and medical research institute based in the Hunter Region of New South Wales, Australia. Since 1998, its pioneering partnership with the University of Newcastle, Hunter New England Local Health District and Calvary Mater Newcastle has delivered research outcomes and technology closely aligned to community health needs. More than 1,400 clinical, biomedical and public health researchers and support staff are working across seven key HMRI Research Programs. They strive to prevent, cure and treat a diverse range of serious illnesses by translating research findings made in the lab into real health treatments and preventative strategies for the community. Internationally-recognised research outcomes are being achieved in asthma and airway diseases, cancer, diabetes, mental health, nutrition, pregnancy and reproduction, stroke and more. HMRI offers cutting edge research support and facilities to attract and retain some of the world's leading researchers, and collaborations are being conducted with institutes on all points of the globe.
