What Is Howard Supply Company?

Howard Supply Company dates back to 1937 when it was founded in Los Angeles, CA by Mr. Harold Howard. The company quickly grew from the original location to include thirteen stores stretching from Los Angeles to Oakland in the San Francisco Bay area. Their first printed catalog was printed in 1954 and contained 844 pages. In our early years, the Howard Supply Company printed catalog was considered "the source book" for information and ordering of supplies. We hope that you find this website to be as helpful as our customers did fifty years ago. While the primary focus of the company was and still is the oilfield industry, Howard Supply also became a leading supplier of industrial supplies and gas station equipment. In fact, during the major growth years of Southern California, an entire gas station, building included, could be ordered, delivered and set up by simply calling Howard Supply! In 1977 Republic Steel Corporation purchased Howard Supply from the late Mr. Howard's family. Howard Supply Company was the largest distributor of Republic's OCTG products in California. The company became a division of Republic Supply Company at this time. In 1983, Republic Steel and LTV Steel merged with LTV being the surviving entity. As LTV already had a supply division, Continental Emsco Company, all of the Republic Supply holdings were put up for sale. In 1985 these holdings were purchased by Mr. F M Late of Dallas, TX. Howard Supply Company was spun off from Republic Supply in 1987 and continues today under the same ownership. The company has seen many changes over the years and is proud of our achievements. In the past few years Howard Supply has grown its Well Service Specialty business into the Largest in the Nation. October 26, 2000: Howard Supply Company announced that it completed the acquisition of E&H Industrial Supplies, Inc. with store locations in Casper, Rock Springs, & Gillette, Wyoming and Williston, North Dakota. September 1, 2001: Howard Supply Company announced that it completed the acquisition of Justis Supply & Machine in Farmington, New Mexico. Fall 2001: Howard Supply Company opens a new store in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Spring 2003: HSC opens a new store in Vernal, Utah.
