What Is Hospitality House of Northwest North Carolina?

Hospitality House, a regional nonprofit transitional living facility and crisis assistance resource center, serves seven rural North Carolina counties (Watauga, Wilkes, Ashe, Avery, Alleghany, Mitchell, Yancey) providing housing, hunger relief, homeless prevention, counseling and critical services. In our ongoing quest to end homelessness, we operate six unique housing programs - Winter Shelter, Emergency Shelter, Transitional Housing, Permanents Supportive Housing, Rapid Rehousing and Scattered Site Housing. Scattered Site Housing consists of eleven (11) leased properties (apartments, homes and duplexes) in Watauga and Wilkes counties providing stability and case management for families and individuals with disabilities or mental illness. We are seeking to further expand this program in Wilkes and into Ashe county. Our hunger relief programs include the Bread of Life Community Kitchen, which serves 3-meals-a-day, 7-days-a-week, 365-days-a-year to anyone who is hungry, a client choice Food Pantry, which is open 7-days-a-week, 365-days-a-year to all who qualify and our quarter acre Organic Gardens that consist of 30 raised-beds, 2 hoop houses, a passive-solar greenhouse, small orchard, berry patch, pick-your-own herb garden and 18 hens. MISSION: Since 1984, the mission of Hospitality House has been to rebuild lives and strengthen community by providing a safe, nurturing, healthy environment in which individuals and families experiencing homelessness and poverty-related crises are equipped to become self-sufficient and productive. VISION: A community where every individual and family thrives. VALUES: Respect for each individual and his or her path, situation, and place in life. Dignity in action and example. Compassion for all. Sustainability of life, community, and environment. Integrity of intent and behavior. Ownership of the mission. Initiative to be an innovative and creative leader in the organization and community.
