What Is Horizons Atlanta?

Our Mission & Vision Horizons Atlanta believes that every child in Atlanta, regardless of background, should have the same chance at making a positive impact on his or her community. We provide this opportunity by eliminating the critical barriers to success that many of our children face, thus putting them on a path to: • Read proficiently by the end of third grade • Graduate from high school • Receive higher education and • Become globally competitive professionals Horizons is a transformational educational experience that closes the opportunity gap and changes the trajectories of children's lives. Horizons Atlanta offers an exciting learning environment outside of the traditional school year that enables youth to overcome the odds through academic achievement and healthy youth development activities such as swimming, music, theater, art, and other opportunities to cultivate creativity and leadership. Returning to the program year-after-year, Horizons students build lasting relationships with their teachers and peers, learn to tackle new challenges, and develop life skills essential for success. While each site is unique, they all foster a community that nurtures curiosity and a love of learning in every child. Here in metro Atlanta, our Horizons sites include: - Holy Innocents' Episcopal School (Atlanta's flagship site) - Woodward Academy - Clark Atlanta University - Atlanta Technical College - Georgia Tech - Georgia State University (new in 2015) - Kennesaw State University (new in 2015) - Atlanta International School (starting in Summer 2016)
