What Is Hoffman Hart and Wagner?

Hoffman, Hart & Wagner (HHW) was founded in 1992 by several of Oregon's more experienced civil trial attorneys. Their goals were to provide state of the art, cost-efficient advice and courtroom defense for a confined group of clients, specifically medical providers, lawyers, as well as other professionals, employers, institutions, insurance companies, private corporations and municipalities in courts throughout Oregon and Washington. They started relatively small, but have grown as the list of their satisfied clients has grown. The firm now has fifty attorneys with offices in Portland and Redmond, Oregon. HHW trial attorneys are actively handling litigation in both federal and state court in Oregon, Washington and elsewhere in the Pacific Northwest. As opportunities for lawyers to develop real civil trial experience diminish each year, the extent of actual litigation experience possessed by attorneys at Hoffman, Hart & Wagner is very unique. No better collection of accomplished trial lawyers exists than at Hoffman, Hart & Wagner. We try cases when they need to be tried. One founding trial attorney, John Hart, heads the firm's medical malpractice group. He has tried over 350 cases to verdict during his thirty-four years of practice. Mr. Hart is a fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers, and past president of Oregon's Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates. Like many HHW partners, John is regularly selected as a "Best" or "Super" Lawyer. Our recently retired partner, Mark Wagner, was highly respected throughout his storied trial career. The only objections Mark makes now are over his boat or dog's behavior in the San Juan Islands. "Mick" Hoffman also specializes in medical malpractice defense, and has tried over 200 cases to verdict with notable successes in both Oregon and Washington. Another founding partner, James Martin, has tried over 150 cases to verdict during his twenty five years of practice, including complex medical malpractice, employment and civil rights claims. Mr. Martin is a member of the American College of Trial Lawyers. The exceptional trial lawyers at Hoffman, Hart & Wagner only begin with these more experienced partners. Jeff Street regularly tries 6-8 complex medical malpractice cases each year throughout Oregon and Washington. Rod Norton, who specializes in medical malpractice cases, has tried more than 150 cases to verdict. Similarly, Gordy Welborn, Karen O'Kasey, Kelly Giampa, and Ruth Hooper have vast experience defending difficult civil cases through trial. Rick Kuhn defends engineers, architects and other design professionals and has tried over 100 cases during his career, while Steve Kraemer has an impressive list of trial successes. Some of the region's best young litigators are: Mike Wiswall, Troy Bundy, Joe Traylor and David Mepham. Finally, Connie McKelvey is our most accomplished administrative lawyer, and no Oregon appellate attorney is more highly respected than Janet Schroer. All HHW attorneys reflect the founding purposes of HHW: (1) Thoroughly understand the adversary's claims, (2) provide compassionate, economical and personalized legal services to every client, and (3) unless the lawsuit is resolved to the satisfaction of the client, skillfully and effectively represent the client through trial and jurors' deliberations.
