What Is Helping Restore Ability?

Helping Restore Ability is a 501c3 organization that offers independence, freedom, and dignity to low-income children, adults, and families who live with a disabling condition. We are the thought leader and advocate for persons with disabilities throughout the state of Texas. We serve all ages and any disabling condition. By providing daily living services in their homes, Helping Restore Ability endeavors to keep families together in their home and our of institutional care so that they may live life to the fullest. Children make up nearly 40% of those that we serve. Those with a disabling condition run a broad range, from infants with a congenital disease, to toddlers diagnosed with autism, to teenagers now using a wheelchair after an accident, to parents who battle cancer, to grandparents diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Everyone knows someone who requires care — maybe a little, maybe around the clock. Helping Restore Ability is the thought-leader and advocate for persons with disabilities and their care. Last year alone, we provided almost 1.5 million hours of service. All of this on only 3% administrative costs. The work conducted at Helping Restore Ability aims ultimately to offer independence, freedom, and dignity to those children, adults and families who live with a disabling condition. We care for children like Carrington, who is two years old and adopted from Ukraine with significant special needs. She spent five weeks in the hospital upon her arrival in Texas for treatment of severe malnutrition. We care for Marcus, a former track athlete who suffered severe spinal trauma in a car wreck heading back to college. We care for Mary, diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, who needs support to age in her home and out of a nursing home. It does not matter a person’s disabling condition – physical, developmental, or intellectual – nor does it matter their age – infant to the elderly – we serve every person and any disabling condition.
