What Is Haltom City Police Department?

Serving approximately 42,000 residents, Haltom City is located near the geographic center of Tarrant County. The City shares its borders with Fort Worth, Richland Hills, North Richland Hills, and Watauga. Haltom City is a Home Rule city managed by a council-manager form of local government. The Haltom City Police Department is staffed by 75 sworn and 29 non-sworn employees, with an annual operating budget of $7.82 million. The Department serves a highly diverse population tasked with handling community issues as well as big city issues—due to its proximity to Fort Worth. The Department follows a community policing model and is divided into three divisions—Patrol, Criminal Investigations, and Operations Support. Specialized units within the Department include: Community Services, School Resource Officer, Traffic, DWI, Bike, Street Crimes, Auto Theft and Narcotics Task Force participation (Tarrant County), K-9, SWAT, and Honor Guard. The Police Department’s sworn employees are covered by civil service as provided through the City’s Charter. Although similar to Chapter 143 of the Local Government Code, the City’s Charter addresses recruitment, promotions, and the disciplinary process for sworn employees.
