What Is HKN Energy?

Founded in 2007 by Ross Perot Jr., HKN Energy Ltd. is a privately held, independent energy company with oil exploration and production operations in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI). Backed by a leadership team, based in both Dallas, Texas and Erbil, KRI, HKN Energy also draws upon an entrepreneurial heritage that only a Perot family-backed enterprise can deliver. The Perot family has been active as an operator and investor in upstream oil and gas for over 40 years. In 1975, the Perots founded Petrus Oil, which focused on U.S.-based oil and gas exploration and production which was sold to Australian-based Bridge Oil. In 1989, the Perots were an early anchor investor in Merit Energy, an independent oil and gas venture that today represents one of the largest privately held U.S.-based oil and gas companies. Ross Perot Jr. formed Hillwood Energy to pursue U.S. and international opportunities. Hillwood Energy's investment in a Russian oil field generated positive results in 2006. Two years later, Hillwood Energy sold a substantial portion of its U.S.-based production and royalty rights at the apex of the U.S. gas market. Today, HKN Energy is focused on increasing production of its Sarsang Block, which is located in the prolific Zagros fold and thrust belt of Northern Kurdistan. The Sarsang Block is comprised of 420 km2 and contains two separate producing fields, Swara Tika and East Swara Tika. Each field contains three independent Triassic oil reservoirs. We have a highly experienced, diverse team with work experience in over 80 different countries. HKN Energy is committed to building a company culture that is guided by its Core Values of Integrity, Respect, Excellence, and Teamwork.
