What Is Grid Protection Alliance?

Targeted OSS software development for electric grid modernization; cyber security, automated analysis, PMU synchrophasor, and historian applications. The Grid Protection Alliance (GPA) is a nonprofit company formed in 2010 to facilitate and support the development and deployment of comprehensive electric energy system-wide solutions and enhancements to electric sector security through integrated, adaptable, collaborative and rapidly-evolving programs of threat identification and analysis, and infrastructure research, development, demonstration, and technology transfer. GPA focuses on improvements to electric energy resiliency, and maintenance of reliability and availability. GPA projects and skills will accommodate the evolving technology of electric energy systems including Grid Modernization, advanced generation sources, and enhanced systems integration. GPA principals have over 100 years of industry experience in operating, maintaining, and improving large electric power systems. Our open source software products include a universally deployed PMU Connection Tester, the open phasor data concentrator (openPDC), the Secure Information Exchange Gateway (SIEGATE), and the open source eXtensible Disturbance Analytics platform (openXDA). Our products are intentionally designed to be flexible and extensible for easy integration and evolution. GPA is the project manager and principal investigator for the DOE funded (SIEGate) project which securely exchanges many different types of power system operations data seamlessly with PMU data. Our newest DOE project is Applied Resiliency for More Trustworthy Grid Operations (ARMORE). We are working with the Electric Power Research Institute on a new PQ Dashboard project, and are actively seeking new project partners to advance the use and functionality of the openHistorian and the openXDA.
