What Is Grant Industries?

Grant Industries is a privately held company involved in the research, development, manufacturing, and marketing of textile, cosmetic, and performance specialty chemicals. The company's involvement in the textile industry dates back 60 years and four generations. The late Charles Granatell founded the company in the late 1930's in his garage on North 8th St. in Haledon NJ. A few years later Charles' only son Tom joined him and the two of them began selling chemicals to the textile industry. In the early years Grant thrived on supplying chemicals to the textile industry. Besides selling quality products Grant's main emphasis was and still is quality service. Most of our orders are followed with same day delivery. This is very important to the dyers and finishers who need to get their goods out the door. In 1967 the company was at a crossroads. Charles Granatell lost his bout with cancer and Tom was left to run the company by himself. Having worked with his own father for over 30 years, Tom's wish was to have one of his sons join him in running the company. By 1975 Tom's two oldest sons, Chuck and Mike, joined him and a new generation of Granatells' was involved in the chemical industry. Grant Industries made one of its biggest acquisitions in 1977. The company purchased Chemical Products Corporation and moved its facility from Haledon NJ to its current headquarters in Elmwood Park NJ. As a result of its acquisition Grant became involved in the cosmetic industry. At that time, Chemical Products was manufacturing hydrolyzed proteins, which were being sold to a number of large producers of hair care products. Over the years many new products were developed and added to the cosmetic product line. The company continued to grow and diversify over the years. By 1990 the rest of Tom's sons, Dave, Joe, and Paul had joined the company. In 1996 Grant started its fourth generation when Tom's oldest grandson Tom joined the company. The company maintains manufacturing and warehousing in Elmwood Park, NJ, Mexico, Dominican Republic, England and Egypt. Today Tom Granatell, his five sons, and his grandson run Grant Industries. Now in the 21st century, we will never forget how we got here. Selling quality products along with quality service.
