We have grown since our humble beginnings in 1895 into an internationally renowned malt maturation expert, retailer, UK wholesaler, and distiller. Established as a grocery business in 1895 by James Gordon and John Alexander MacPhail used their centrical and commodious premises' to showcase local produce and curate exotic commodities from around the world. We have expanded from the eponymously named Gordon & MacPhail South Street retail shop into a multi-faceted international business: retailer, specialist UK wholesaler, international trade partner, distiller, and of course, single malt maturation experts. For more than 120 years, our Speyside family business has carved out a unique niche for itself in the Scotch malt whisky market as maturation experts; generations of experience in the exploration and understanding of matching the cask to spirit has developed our 'the wood makes the whisky' philosophy. Single-mindedly committed to the art of malt whisky maturation, we have created a outstanding collection of consistently intriguing single malts. Gordon & MacPhail is also an award-winning UK specialist wholesaler, our focus is quality. We specialise in whisky and spirits including premium, luxury, and limited edition offerings. Alongside an unrivalled knowledge of Scottish single malts and passion for matching spirit with oak, the Urquhart family held a long-standing ambition to own a distillery. This desire became a reality in 1993 with the purchase of the Benromach Distillery on the outskirts of Forres, just 12 miles from the steps of the shop in Elgin.
