What Is Good Samaritan Convenient Care Clinic?

Good Samaritan Hospital has a rich history as the preferred healthcare system for residents in southwestern Indiana and southeastern Illinois. When you're a community hospital for 100 years, you touch many lives. In 1908 we opened our doors to serve our community's health needs. Over the years that single building has become many as we responded to your changing medical needs and the area's growth. But one thing has never changed — our mission to serve. It is put into action every day by dedicated healthcare professionals, employees and volunteers. Good Samaritan Hospital Milestones 1901 The plight of a sick traveler motivated the women of the Columbian Reading Circle to establish a hospital. 1903 The Clark-Gibault Memorial Hospital Association was founded to facilitate the building of a county hospital. 1908 Good Samaritan Hospital opened its doors on February 8, 1908. The 25-bed facility was the first county hospital in Indiana. Edith Willis became the hospital's first superintendent (1908-1944). Her staff included an assistant superintendent, a student nurse, a janitor and a cook. 1918 The North Wing was added, bringing the number of patient beds to 60. 1922 The completed South Wing provided 21 more patient beds and 19 bassinets. 1944 The medical staff purchased an X-ray machine for the hospital with their own money and Good Samaritan's radiology department was born. 1949 Good Samaritan Memorial Building was completed. 175 patient beds answered an urgent need as patient volume soared. 1958 Major renovations brought the number of patient beds to 221 and added state-of-the-art facilities for a laboratory, physical medicine, radiology and rehabilitation. 1962 The Knox County Hospital Association was founded. It continues to play an integral role in the hospital's growth and development. 1967 A new four-bed cardiac care unit was unveiled heralding the birth of Cardiology in Vincennes. 1968 Ground breaking was held for the modern, seven-story Columbian Tower addition. 1971 The Columbian Tower addition opened to the public. 1980 The ground breaking was held for the Columbian Tower West. 1984 Columbian Tower West was completed and brought the number of patient beds to 342, added a new cardiology department and modernized emergency room. 1989 The new Diagnostic and Treatment Center opened with a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine, a Radiation Therapy Planning Simulator, a Cobalt Radiation Therapy Unit and a Linear Accelerator Radiation Unit. 1993 The Heart Center opened to the public. The hospital's first open-heart surgery was performed on July 14, 1993. 1995 The 5-story Health Pavilion opened with the latest outpatient technology and a Women's and Infants Center. 1997 Good Samaritan Hospital created a Foundation to secure private, philanthropic support for the hospital. 2001 The Medical Arts Building was completed. 2004 The two-story, 30,000 square foot Same Day Surgery Center opened. It streamlined outpatient services and specialized in quick, less invasive surgical procedures. 2005 The inpatient surgery renovation was completed. 2008 Good Samaritan Hospital celebrates its centennial anniversary. The 25,000 square foot Cancer Pavilion was completed. It centralized a full spectrum of cancer care including radiation and infusion therapy in a patient-focused atmosphere.
