What Is Friends Homes?

Friends Homes Inc. is a non-profit corporation chartered in 1958 for the purpose of owning and operating a retirement community in Greensboro, North Carolina. Founded by the North Carolina Yearly Meeting of the Society of Friends (Quakers), Friends Homes was founded to minister to the needs of the 60+ population. In 1968, Friends Homes opened 24 apartments for seniors on New Garden Road. Over the years, Friends Homes at Guilford expanded its facilities and services becoming a continuing care facility with three levels of care. To meet the growing demand for services to seniors, a second continuing care facility, Friends Homes West, was built and opened in 1993. Both communities operate on a fee-for-service basis. In accordance with the Quaker principles, both communities provide, at reasonable cost, an environment which fosters independence and a sense of wholeness, health and security so that each resident may realize his or her full potential. Living and working together, the residents and staff of both communities enjoy a wonderful spirit of camaraderie.
