First Student, Inc. is the leading student transportation provider in the U.S. serving 1,500+ school districts with more than 62,000 buses. We are part of FirstGroup America, which provides student transportation, public transit, and public fleet maintenance services to the largest base of customers throughout the U.S. and Canada. Our parent company, FirstGroup plc, is a global transportation provider which carries more than 2.5 billion people annually through its expansive public rail and bus transportation network and employs more than 135,000 employees across the UK and North America. First Student began from the acquisition of Ryder Student Transportation, several other large busing companies and (more recently) our acquisition of Laidlaw Education Services. FirstGroup, plc was incorporated in 1995 from the merger of two British bus companies, Badgerline Group and Grampian Regional Transport a company that has operated bus lines in the United Kingdom for more than 100 years. First is now the UK's largest bus and rail company, with over 38,000 employees, 9,000 buses in service and passenger rail and rail freight operations. With the acquisition of Ryder's public transportation division in September 1999, FirstGroup America also became one of the largest bus companies in the United States. Our acquisition of Laidlaw in October 2007 makes us the nation's leading school transportation services provider.
