What Is Empower Illinois?

Empower Illinois works to improve access to quality education that is the best fit for every child, in every neighborhood. Our mission is to expand quality education options for low-income and working-class families of Illinois. Beginning in 2018, Empower Illinois will provide service as a new statewide scholarship granting organization, being built to serve the state’s private school system and the children who gain access to it as a result of the new $100,000,000 "Invest in Kids" annual scholarship tax credit law. Schools, charities and communities can participate with our SGO and empower your school to make a difference in providing equal access to high-quality education in your neighborhood. Through the Illinois Tax Credit Scholarship program, low-income and working-class families are given the opportunity to consider whether a private school might be a better educational fit for their child. Education philanthropy in Illinois makes up less than 1% of K-12 spending. Empower Illinois wants to change that. Students only get one chance at a quality education, and financial constraints shouldn’t affect that. When you donate to Empower Illinois, you allow a child to receive a high-quality education that will prepare them for a successful future. They can’t do it without you.
