Earth5R was founded by Saurabh Gupta who quit his job at Cafe Coffee Day India to bicycle around different countries, riding more than 50,000 kms in little more than two years. Over the course of his journey, he felt the need of citizens' involvement in sustainable development against the increasing environmental risks which inspired him to launch Earth5R. The 5Rs refer to our 5 Earth values: Respect, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Restore. The team is made of a global network of interns and volunteers who have a passion for the environment. Each of our team members has their own story about why they volunteer. We're extremely lucky to have a team of dedicated partners that come out and build the projects. They are not just volunteers but new age Social Entrepreneurs who have taken the responsibility of building the change they wanted to see. Earth5R has developed an ambitious Green Citizen Model which aims to make India sustainable by engaging citizens, volunteers, marginalized communities, governments, and corporates into a comprehensive sustainable development program. Saurabh says that Green Citizens is not just a sentimental vision of Earth5R, the world needs a participative model and it's urgent! Now the team initiated a program called “ACT Powai” which stands for “Action, Collaboration, Transformation”. Its objective is to lift the spirit of our neighbourhood by inspiring all Powai inhabitants to contribute to positive change, become involved and start doing – because a community of people who care deeply for one another and the environment in which they live is good for everyone. This project will take 2 years. In that time Powai will become a sustainable neighbourhood, if the goals of Vision Green Sustainable Powai, as set out by Earth5R, are met.
