E4 Crop Intelligence was founded in 1999. The letter "E" was used in honor of Greg's father Eldred who passed away when Greg was in junior high, and the "4" comes from the four boys in the family. The initial focus of the firm was soil sampling and crop monitoring, but Greg soon found himself working with precision agriculture software programs. Since Greg and his team used many precision technologies in their soil sampling and crop monitoring work, it was natural that customers would ask for help with their hardware and software. Before long, E4 was a full-service precision ag technology and service provider. Frustrated with the difficulties of making precision ag software and hardware work together, E4 started development of its own precision ag software support platform. The name for that platform – E4 Crop Intelligence – reflects the goal of providing the industry's first fully-integrated precision ag support platform that is both powerful and easy-to-use.
