Mission and Values The mission of Craig General Hospital is to create an environment where healing can occur and wellness is promoted. Founded: 1963 Ownership: Craig General Hospital is an independent hospital operated by a public trust authority, the Craig County Hospital Authority, whose board is appointed by the Craig County Commissioners. The hospital facility is owned by Craig County and leased to the Craig County Hospital Authority. Craig General Hospital is a self-sustaining, not-for-profit hospital. Hospital inpatient services include: Acute care, surgery, geriatric psychiatric care, Joy Birthing Center, rehabiliation. Physicians on medical staff: 10 active staff with more than 20 visiting physicians representing several specialties, including: cardiology, electrophysiology, otolaryngology, orthopedics, podiatry, urology, gastroenterology, neurological surgery, ophthalmology, and pulmonology Craig General Hospital is located on a piece of the homestead of Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Friend, who donated the land in the early 1960s. Funds for construction came from a federal Hill-Burton grant of $245,000 and a Craig County bond issue of $250,000. At its opening in 1963, Craig General Hospital operated with 32 beds and 70 employees, contributing a $149,647 annual payroll to the community. Today, the facility is licensed for 62 beds and employs more than 285 people with a $7 million payroll. Our History Craig General Hospital is operated by a public trust authority, the Craig County Hospital Authority, whose board is appointed by the county commissioners. Craig General Hospital is a self-sustaining, not-for-profit hospital. Realizing the importance of having quality health care close to home, Craig General Hospital recently expanded its services to include three facilities near the shores of Grand Lake at Langley and Monkey Island, as well a clinic in Welch.
