What Is Communities In Schools of Pittsburgh-Allegheny County?

The mission of Communities In Schools is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. Communities In Schools of Pittsburgh-Allegheny County (CISPAC) is a non-profit dropout prevention organization that is an affiliate of the nation's largest stay-in-school network. Through our In-School Services, After-School Programs, and Alternative Learning Academies, Communities In Schools connects students and their families to critical community resources, tailored to individual needs. Communities In Schools changes the dropout equation with Integrated Student Services (ISS). We work in partnership with, as well as inside school systems with superintendents, principals, educators and other personnel, and forge community partnerships that bring resources into schools and help remove barriers to learning. Communities In Schools adheres to our mission by emphasizing Five Basics. We believe that every child needs and deserves: • A one-on-one caring relationship with an adult • A safe place to learn and grow • A healthy start and a healthy future • A marketable skill to use upon graduation • A chance to give back to peers and community Existing programs are in place within the following school buildings: • Pittsburgh Public Schools – King Pre K-8 • Pittsburgh Public Schools – Allegheny K-5 • Penn Hills School District – Linton Middle • Pittsburgh Public Schools – Manchester Pre K -8 • Pittsburgh Urban Christian School Program Partnerships exist with the following school districts: • Baldwin/Whitehall School District • Belle Vernon Area School District • Clairton School District • East Allegheny School District • Penn Hills School District • Pittsburgh Public Schools • Pittsburgh Urban Christian School • South Park School District • Steele Valley School District • West Mifflin School District • Wilkinsburg School District
