What Is Commercial Metals Company?

Since 1915, Commercial Metals Company (CMC) has manufactured, recycled and marketed steel and metal products and related materials through more than 130 locations worldwide. The Manufacturing segment is comprised of the CMC Steel Group and Howell Metal Company. The CMC Steel Group has four steel minimills and over 70 other operations from California to Virginia. Howell Metal Company is a copper tube manufacturer. Steel mill capacity of 2.3 million tons includes light and mid-sized structurals, reinforcing bars, angles, channels, beams, special bar quality rounds and flats, squares and special sections used in the construction, manufacturing, steel fabrication and warehousing industries. Steel fabrication capacity exceeds 900,000 tons. The copper tube mill, with 80 million pounds of capacity, manufactures copper water tube plus air conditioning and refrigeration tubing. CMC's Recycling segment is one of the largest processors of nonferrous scrap metals and one of the largest regional processors of ferrous scrap metals in the U.S. During fiscal 2002, our 44 recycling plants processed and shipped 2.3 million tons of scrap metal, the preferred raw material for many metal producers and manufacturers. The Marketing and Distribution segment markets steel, nonferrous semis, primary and secondary metals and industrial raw materials through a global network of sixteen offices, four processing facilities and other investments and joint ventures around the world. This segment functions as a global marketing channel for metal producers and fabricators, providing technical information, financing, chartering, storage, insurance and hedging.
