Distinguished by more than 50 years of high-impact research, the University of California at Riverside has become one of the leading institutions for the exploration of issues critical to growing communities at home and abroad. CE-CERT, as the largest research center on campus, brings together multiple disciplines throughout campus to address societyᅢᄁ¬ツᆲ¬トᄁs most pressing environmental challenges in air, energy, and transportation. CE-CERTᅢᄁ¬ツᆲ¬トᄁs research focus is on using technology to achieve environmental sustainability, an ambitious goal that will require innovation in many different areas. From working to understand how emissions impact air quality to developing the technologies needed to improve solar and other renewable power sources, the projects that our research teams are currently engaged in support renewable fuel development and energy management; vehicle technology and combustion optimization; transportation systems with an emphasis on vehicle and infrastructure interaction; pollution formation in the atmosphere; and exposure and health impacts. Our interdisciplinary research model brings together students from a variety of backgrounds to work cooperatively on hands-on research - from the engineering fields: Chemical and Environmental Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering; as well as schools outside of engineering: School of Medicine, School of Public Policy, College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences, and the School of Business Administration. CE-CERT collaborates with industry on numerous projects to develop, validate, and improve technologies related to energy and the environment, and to implement pilot scale demonstration and test beds to vet the viability of new technologies on a usable scale. Our work has also resulted in the establishment of emissions measurement protocols for regulatory purposes for various industries.
