We are a community or communities connecting cohousers to one another. Coho/US is a national non-profit raising awareness of cohousing and supporting the development of cohousing communities nationwide. We serve as a connector and clearinghouse to grow and nurture communities. Coho/US advances cohousing by assisting forming and existing communities with information, directory and communication resources; and educating the public about the benefits of cohousing, from greater connections to increased resilience and sustainable lifestyle to healthy families. Coho/US Program & Services: Educating and inspiring through national conferences and online events as well as smaller live events across the country. Providing information and connection opportunities through our website. Fostering a cohousing-friendly social, political and economic environment through education & advocacy Collaborating on opportunities to grow the cohousing movement and nurture communities Cohousing is an intentional community of private homes clustered around shared space. Each attached or single family home has traditional amenities, including a private kitchen. Shared spaces typically feature a common house, which may include a large kitchen and dining area, laundry, and recreational spaces. Shared outdoor space may include walkways, open space, and gardens. Neighbors also share resources like tools and lawnmowers. Households have independent incomes and private lives, and neighbors collaboratively plan and manage community activities and shared spaces. The legal structure is typically an HOA, Condo Association, or Housing Cooperative. Community activities feature regularly-scheduled shared meals, meetings, and workdays. Neighbors gather for parties, games, movies, or other events. Cohousing makes it easy to share resources, organize child and elder care, and carpool.
