What Is City of Grand Rapids Michigan?

The City of Grand Rapids is committed to transparency and accountability, a commitment that has strengthened during the transformation of the City. At the Special Briefing on September 25, 2012, the commission and the community had another opportunity to learn about the financial condition of the City, as well as the progress being made to implement the 76 value streams within the Transformation Investment Plan. This Plan is serving as a vital guide to ensure the City transforms by FY2016. During the briefing Chief Financial Officer Scott Buhrer presented the preliminary FY2012 financial results. The report provided a glimpse of the financial challenges we have ahead and the pathway to becoming financially sustainable by FY2016. Also included was a status update of the 76 value streams within the Transformation Investment Plan, as well as a blueprint of key decisions designed to move the plan forward to ensure expenditure targets are met. This discussion was led by Deputy City Manager Eric DeLong and Assistant to the City Manager Tom Almonte. Stated City Manager Greg Sundstrom, "I know that a sustainable future for our organization is within our reach, but it will require tough decisions in the days ahead."
