The City of Florence, chartered in 1890, is located in Florence County, South Carolina at the intersection of I-95 and I-20. The city is the county seat of Florence County and a hub of an eight county area known as the "Pee Dee Region" of South Carolina. The city occupies a land area of approximately 20 square miles and serves a population of approximately 37,000.\r\n\r\nThe CIty operates under the council-manager form of government. Policy-making and legislative authority are vested in a governing council consisting of the mayor and six other members. The Mayor and three members of Council are elected at large.
