What Is City Underwriting Agency?

Since 1930, City Underwriting Agency, Inc. has been providing expert risk management services and high quality insurance products to companies throughout the Tri-State region. The company was founded in 1930 by James A. Roe. During the firm's early years, CUA primarily focused on the construction industry, providing coverage for major projects such as Shea Stadium and the 1964 World's Fair in New York. After James Roe passed away in 1967, he was succeeded as president and majority shareholder by his son, John E. Roe, Sr., who had joined the firm in 1960. Under his leadership, CUA established itself as a leading regional insurance broker, diversifying into the healthcare and transportation fields. In 1984, CUA moved its corporate offices from New York City to Long Island. In 1986, John Sr.'s son, John E. Roe, Jr., joined the family business. Like his father before him, John Jr. expanded the agency, making it a prominent player in the surety bond and group benefits arenas. In 1997, he assumed the title of president and majority shareholder with John Sr. continuing as chairman. Today, CUA is thriving under its third generation of family leadership, growing steadily while being consistently recognized as one of the most innovative and reputable insurance agencies in the Tri-State area. At CUA, we specialize in asset protection by identifying and controlling risk to avoid losses and aggressively managing losses that do occur. These are the cornerstones of risk management. One way to mitigate risk is by transferring it to another party, which is really the definition of an insurance policy. CUA's experienced professionals are capable of handling all of your insurance needs, including Personal and Commercial Property & Casualty Insurance, Surety & Executive Protection and Group Benefits. No matter what field your company is in, our experts understand the challenges you face and can help you minimize expenses through insurance cost containment and reduction.
