What Is Children's Home Society of Virginia?

Chartered in 1900, Children’s Home Society of Virginia is a private, nonprofit adoption agency finding permanent homes for all children and providing related services to birth families, adoptive families and adoptees. Our services include Adoption Services, Pregnancy Counseling, Temporary Foster Care and Post Adoption Services. Adoption Services: CHS places healthy infants as well as infants and older children with special needs into permanent homes. In addition, the nationally acclaimed Partnership for Adoption program matches children in the custody of departments of social services with loving families wanting to adopt. Post Adoption Services: CHS offers support services that include counseling, reviewing and interpreting medical and birth heritage information and searching for birth parents. Recently CHS has expanded Post Adoption Services to Fredericksburg, Va to serve the northern Virginia area. My Path Forward: My Path Forward (formerly The Possibilities Project) is a collaborative program of Children’s Home Society of Virginia and the Better Housing Coalition. This initiative empowers youth ages 18 to 25 who have aged out of Virginia’s foster care system without being adopted. My Path Forward provides these young people with critical supports and housing, and assists them as they develop into independent and engaged community members. MPF also conducts research and undertakes advocacy; our research with Child Trends surveyed programs and policies across the country addressing the plight of youth who age out of foster care. Using a combination of national research with practical application applied locally, MPF will serve as a replicable program model to serve former foster care youth in our region, throughout the Commonwealth and across the nation.
