What Is Challengers?

Challengers provides fantastic, fun opportunities for disabled children and young people.\r\nWhilst playing at Challengers, disabled children develop vital social, co-ordination and communication skills whilst having fun - all in preparation for adult life. We provide the perfect place for disabled children to enjoy play at the same time in a safe and secure environment. \r\n \r\nOur services also fulfill another purpose; we give parents and families a much needed break. Caring for a disabled child can be exhausting, often Challengers is the only respite families are eligible for. This constant pressure means that parents are twice as likely to break up, and 55% of disabled children live below the poverty line. At Challengers we provide breaks for parents at high pressure times, at our holiday play schemes, after-school groups and activity groups and weekends away. \r\n\r\nAs an organization we rely heavily on the support of our local community and businesses, and we are incredibly lucky to have such great supporters. As a local charity we don’t always have the funds and profile of bigger, national charities have but what we are able to do is be reactive in our community. We can identify where the needs are and ensure that we make every effort to fill that gap in services. This means we really see the difference funding makes and we always aim to work as closely as we can with the local community, without their support we just wouldn’t be the charity we are today.
