Catholic Charities of Onondaga County is one of Central New York’s leading not-for-profit human services agencies, providing compassionate care and advocacy for all people in need, regardless of religion, race, ethnicity, or nationality. Incorporated in 1923, Catholic Charities today improves the lives of more than 26,000 people in Onondaga County each year, ranging in age from infants to senior citizens. Our programs focus on children and families, at-risk youth, refugees, the homeless, those in need of emergency assistance, and the elderly, as well as disadvantaged, addicted, and/or developmentally disabled individuals. The sheer diversity of programs -- more than 40 in all, operated at multiple sites throughout Onondaga County -- indicates the resources this agency brings to the entire regional community. Catholic Charities has more than 250 dedicated employees and scores of volunteers. We are dedicated to providing services at the agency level, the neighborhood level, and the home-based level. Utilizing evidence-based approaches, we bring comfort and relief to those who are in need while assisting them to function at a higher level. Catholic Charities of Onondaga County is a United Way of Central New York agency. Facts and Figures Catholic Charities of Onondaga County... Resettles 600 refugees in Syracuse each year. Provides services to over 3500 senior citizens every year. Distributes fresh food to 100 families at the Bishop Foery Foundation monthly. Serves 65,000 meals to seniors every year. Shelters an average of 17 homeless women per night at The Dorothy Day House. Provides home repairs through Project Fix for over 700 seniors each year. Shelters over 100 homeless men at the Oxford Street Inn each night. Prepares almost 200 children each year for kindergarten. Serves 40,000 snacks to children during the school year and 30,000 meals during the summer. Provides after school programs to over 1,000 elementary age children at our 5 neighborhood centers. Provides a teen program at our neighborhood centers attended by 400 teens each year. Provides counseling to 300 individuals annually at little to no cost. Works intensively with 300 families per year to help parents be the best parents they can be.
