Over the years, this organization's role involved operating the public continuing care facilities and the coordination and planning of Central Assessment and Placement Services (CAPS) and the Long Term Care Psychiatric Consulting Services for 25 long term care facilities in the greater Edmonton area. In 1991, the Edmonton and Rural Auxiliary Hospital and Nursing Home District No. 24 changed its operational name to The CAPITAL CARE Group. During 1995, Capital Care Group Inc. (incorporated under the Business Corporations Act of Alberta and operating as The CAPITAL CARE Group) became a wholly owned subsidiary of the Capital Health Authority. In the decade following, the organization underwent significant changes: a move away from the medical model and towards a social model of care, development of western Canada's only continuing care research unit, and the development of specialized services and programs to meet the needs of a diverse population. In 2007 The CAPITAL CARE Group and The CAPITAL CARE Foundation took on new names and a new look, becoming CapitalCare and the CapitalCare Foundation. The new logo with two joined letter Cs shows how caregivers and the community can work together to improve the quality of life of the people we serve.
