What Is Camanchaca?

Camanchaca began in Chile in 1965, catching and processing shrimp and langostino lobsters. In 1980, began to diversify into other sea products, including aquaculture. Currently, Camanchaca is engaged in industrial fishing in Chile as well as farming of Atlantic salmon, mussels and abalone. It operates along 4,125 Miles of Chile's coastline. This growth has earned the company a privileged position in international markets, exporting to more than 50 countries. Camanchaca has targeted its production increasingly more towards human consumption, including frozen and canned jack mackerel, langostino lobster and fish oils rich in omega-3 fatty acids. In the farming business, Camanchaca became the world’s first salmon producer to earn four stars for the Global Aquaculture Alliance’s (GAA) Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) certification. This standard, which is highly valued by consumers, retailers and food service operators throughout the world, guarantees that salmon production is performed in a socially and environmentally responsible manner and is safe for human consumption. Camanchaca is also a founding member of the Global Salmon Initiative (GSI), an alliance representing approximately 50% of the world’s farmed salmon production. This initiative recognizes the role that salmon farming can play to satisfy the growing global demand for healthy proteins in a sustainable manner over the next few decades and has made significant progress on an industry level. In order to establish a close presence in the strategic markets, the company has opened offices or has commercial representation in the United States, Japan, Europe, and recently in Central America and Asia. In the latter market, it has joined forces with other Chilean producers to form a partnership called “New World Currents”. The Company’s corporate offices are located in Santiago, Chile. Everyone at Camanchaca is committed to its mission to “feed the world from the ocean”, supplying high quality fish and shell fish
