The Central Jackson County Fire Protection District was formed in 1961 after a vote of the people approved the creation of the district. The area covered the Blue Springs & Lake Tapawingo areas of Jackson County, MO. Station 1 was on Main Street in Blue Springs and Station 2 was built in Lake Tapawingo. In 1970, CJC moved Station 1 to its current location at 10th & U.S. 40 in Blue Springs. Eventually a second story was added to facilitate the increasing needs of the Fire District. As CJC grew, Station 3 was added on N. 7 in Blue Springs, and Station 2 was relocated to its current location at Kingsridge and Woods Chapel. In 1985, the citizens of Grain Valley voted to join CJC. This added a fourth station. In 1996, Station 4 was relocated to its current location at 700 W. AA Hwy. in Grain Valley, and the old station was converted into the District's Training and Maintenance Center. Also that year, Station 3 was relocated to its current location at 805 NE Jefferson in Blue Springs, which is at the Adams Dairy Parkway exit off I-70. At that time, Headquarters was moved from Station 1 to Station 3. In 2004, Station 5 was opened at 2509 South Adams Dairy Parkway in Blue Springs. Today, CJC has over 100 full time professionals at your service. CJC has four Engine Companies (located at Stations 2, 3, 4, & 5) and a Ladder Company (located at Station 1). Under contract with the City of Blue Springs, MO, CJC operates three full time, Advanced Life Support ambulances (located at Stations 1, 2, & 3). CJC also staffs paramedics on the Engine and Ladder Companies, to facilitate rapid ALS response to medical emergencies. Frequently you will see a fire engine show up before an ambulance. This is to start assessment and life saving proceedures as soon as possible. The ambulances are kept busy, with Emergency Medical Services calls accounting for about 80% of the call volume at CJC. CJC operates a Heavy Rescue Team, one of 6 "Mini-USAR"" teams located in the Kansas City Metro Area. (USAR stands for Urban Search And Rescue.) These "Mini-USAR" teams are designed to operate during the initial stages of a catastrophe such as a major building collapse until FEMA USAR teams are brought in. CJC also participates in the Tri-District HazMat Team. Sni-Valley and Ft. Osage Fire Districts are also participating members of the Tri-District team. This team responds to hazardous material incidents to help stabilize life and environmental threatening emergencies. CJC provides other services to the community. While preventing a fire before it starts is best, sometimes fires still occur. However, CJC's Fire Prevention Division works hard to help the patrons of the District to prevent fires. The Fire Prevention Division is involved with ensuring that new construction meets current fire codes and oversees annual inspections of businesses to ensure they are in compliance with fire codes. All personnel at CJC are involved with public education. CJC frequently visits schools to give fire safety talks. CJC also sets up fire safety programs at various community events. And, as you can see from browsing our website, CJC also offers EMT and Paramedic courses, refreshers, and continuing education classes for EMTs and Paramedics.
