What Is Brunswick City Schools?

The State of Ohio has rated Brunswick City Schools as EXCELLENT WITH DISTINCTION, and Memorial as EXCELLENT this year . This rating is based on state test results from last May. Our goal, as always, is to continue to work to improve our achievement in all subject areas of our curriculum. Additionally, we will continue our focus on wellness and safety. Our enrollment currently for this school year is 453 students. We have four new teachers this year working with our students. Miss Gallagher joins Mrs. Hayest in the 3 rd grade job share. Mr. McGrew will be teaching 5 th Grade Band. Miss Szymanski will be instructing our 5 th Grade Orchestra students. Mrs. Krause will be joining Mrs. Greytak in teaching Speech. We welcome these new teachers and all of our new students. Memorial School Handbooks and the district elementary school handbook have been included in the planners for students in Grades 1-5. Kindergartners are being given a copy of both the Memorial handbook and the district elementary school handbook. Please review these handbooks with your children so that they are familiar with the rules and policies. We will have our required 10 fire drills as well as tornado drills throughout the school year. Our required Lockdown Drill will occur sometime during September. I will send home information about these drills in the future so you can have that important conversation with your child about safety at school. Some reminders as we start the school year:O ur school day is 9:15 AM to 3:30 PM. Students may enter the building at 9:00 AM. Students are not to arrive on the school grounds before 8:55 AM because this presents a supervision concern. Kindergarten AM is from 9:15-11:45 AM and Kindergarten PM is from 1:00-3:30 PM. At Arrival, all walking and car riding students will enter the front doors of the building. All bus riders will enter the back door. At Dismissal, car riding students can be picked up in the back of the building. Parents need to park in the back and await the dismissal. Teachers will direct the dismissal and getting the students safely to the cars. Walkers will exit the southeast front door in K-2 and the southwest front door in Grades 3-5. All bus riders will exit the center front doors. Our last recess will end at approximately 3:20 PM. No car rider parents can park on the playground until after that time. Thanks for your cooperation with our recess schedule. Drive slowly and cautiously on the school grounds. Safety first should be the goal. Visitors to the building will need to ring the doorbell and be identified by our security system before you will be buzzed in. Please sign in at the office upon entering the building and get a visitor's badge. Our school theme for this year is "Upstanding Students All-Around. By working together, we will make this the best possible school year for your child.
