What Is Blue Cap?
Blue Cap’s mission is to serve as a catalyst for children and adults with intellectual disabilities to be educated, have quality life experiences, be respected and be a valued member of their community. Blue Cap has provided individualized supports and services to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities for 50 years. Although located in Blue Island, our programs extend far beyond the physical location. We support people who reside in a major part of the south side of Chicago and over 30 suburban communities. We are a non-profit organization dedicated to meeting the educational, therapeutic, vocational and residential needs of children and adults. Today, Blue Cap’s Children’s Services include: • A School Program for children with developmental disabilities age 3 through 21 with a diagnosis of autism, physical impairment and/or cognitive delay. 9 children receive services in Blue Cap’s School Program • An Early Intervention Billing and Record Keeping Service which allows therapists the time to direct their focus fully on their caseloads. We also offer training and support for adults. Adult programs include: • Workshop, which includes developmental training for adults with severe, multiple disabilities. • Supported Employment, which allows individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to work in the community with a job coach. • Community Residential Services, which includes nine 24-hour homes and intermittent support for individuals who live at home with a parent or guardian. • Senior Day Program offers older individuals the opportunity to retain current life skills while embracing their golden years in a familiar setting. • Adult Day Training Program for individuals with more critical total-care needs. • Home-Based Services, which offers a facilitator to support people and their families receiving services for children and adults in the home.
