What Is Big Thought?

For 30 years, Big Thought has worked with local and national partners to bring tailored creative learning opportunities to kids in Dallas neighborhoods with the greatest need. Students in these high-need neighborhoods do not have equitable access to crucial out-of-school education and social-emotional learning time, which creates what we define as the Opportunity Gap. After-school programs, summer programs, family reading time, pre-school, and weekend day trips add up to 6,000 hours of learning that these students dont receive by 6th grade. Big Thought focuses 90% of our resources on out-of-school-time programs that work with elementary, middle, and high school students to unlock their full potential and set them on a path to success. These programs include: - Partnership with the Dallas Juvenile Department working with teens on probation - After-school programs with a focus on the performing and visual arts - Accessible programs to help stem summer learning loss - STEM programs, including a mobile tech RV that brings access to robotics, coding, and 3D printing to underserved areas Big Thought works closely with the City of Dallas, Dallas ISD, the White House Americorps program, and over 330 other partners across the city and country to provide the highest-quality programming in neighborhoods with the greatest need.
