Big Sandy Superstore was founded in Ashland, Kentucky in 1953 by Robert Van Hoose, Sr. Fresh out of the Air Force, Mr. Van Hoose had a $1000 loan from his wife Lorna and opened his first store. With his faith in God as his foundation, Mr. Van Hoose ran his business on a very basic principle: the golden rule. He believed in giving customers the best possible value for the money spent and if there was a problem, simply follow the golden rule. This simple formula has stood the test of time as Big Sandy has grown into a regional powerhouse in the home furnishings industry and is one of the nation's top 100 furniture retailers. Now with multiple store locations and over 600 employees in Kentucky, Ohio, and West Virginia, we continue to make every decision on the golden rule principal.
