What Is Bentley University Athletics?
Bentley University was established in 1917 by Harry C. Bentley and moved to Waltham in 1968. While Bentley was in Boston it was limited in sports due to space and competed in intermural bowling, basketball, football and tennis. Intercollegiate competition officially kicked off in 1963 with Men's Basketball joining DIII. In 1973 when the Dana center was built Men's Basketball moved to DII and women's sports: basketball, softball, tennis and field hockey were added. In October of 1979, Bentley joined 6 other founding member schools to create the NE-10 and have been playing in the league ever since. Men's Ice Hockey has played DI since 1999 in the Atlantic Hockey league.
