What Is Beach Cities Health District?

Beach Cities Health District (BCHD) is a public agency dedicated to providing preventive health services to the community. Since 1955, Beach Cities Health District (BCHD) has provided health and wellness services to the residents of Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach and Redondo Beach. Health care districts were founded in California during the late 1940s in response to a lack of medical services in rural areas. State legislature passed the â??Local Health Care District Lawâ?? authorizing communities to form special districts that built and operated hospitals and health care facilities. BCHD once ran the former South Bay Hospital. We currently focus on keeping people out of hospitals through a variety of preventive programs. As a public agency, BCHD is subsidized by district property taxes, program fees, health care business, lease and investment income. For every tax dollar we receive, we return approximately $4.79 to the community in services and programs.
