What Is Bangladeshi American Community Development and Youth Services?
Bangladeshi American Community Development & Youth Services (BACDYS) was established in 2011 by Misba Abdin, a business owner, community activist, and lifelong resident of City Line, Brooklyn. Our mission is to help low-income youth and adults, in NYC neighborhoods where there is a strong Bangladeshi presence, attain educational and economic success, lead healthy lives, secure affordable housing, and develop lifelong leadership skills. Currently, we provide pro bono legal and tax services as well as afterschool programs, including tutoring, mentorship, and career services. We also offer a one-stop resource center for the following services: overcoming domestic violence, securing U.S. citizenship, obtaining SNAP benefits/food stamps, and applying for housing. Our annual signature event is a week-long multicultural festival that aims to unify the various immigrant communities living in City Line, Brooklyn. As we gradually expand, we hope to establish a daycare center, a preschool, a K-8 charter school, a workforce services center, and a senior center.
