What Is Ashland Springs Hotel?

The Ashland Springs Hotel, an Ashland landmark, recently converted their laundry and housekeeping operation to Green Seal Certified products manufactured by Ecolab and supplied by Sysco. The hotel made the switch from phosphate and chlorine based cleaning products to the Ecologic line in order to minimize their impact on the environment and reduce landfill waste. The new system utilizes the existing laundry equipment, but reduces water consumption and energy use. The previous laundry system used 96 gallons of water per cycle, while the current Ecologic system uses 64 gallons. The reduced water consumption also leads to corresponding energy savings of up to 45%. The packaging for the products used in the housekeeping operation, including guest area maintenance, is 100% recyclable in addition to being "green. "We are always looking for ways that we can alter our operation to reduce our energy consumption. We strive to reduce our carbon footprint, and this new system provided a solution that works for the environment, reduces the impact on the city's wastewater treatment facility, and provides a nicer experience for our guests" according to Don Anway, General Manager of the Hotel. According to Dr. Bruce Cords, Ecolab's vice president of Environment, Food Safety and Public Health, the ECOLOGIC products were developed to have minimal impact on the environment through attributes relating to chemistry, packaging, training, dispensing controls and other sustainability factors. "The products have been awarded Green Seal certification where criteria for certification exists," Cords explained. "Green Seal is an independent, non-profit organization that identifies and promotes products and services that have less impact on the environment, promote sustainability and are more user-friendly."
