Toward that end, we're committed to increased automation and leading-edge research & development. Art Optical manufactures hundreds of specialty lenses every day. Designs including back toric, front toric, bi-toric, bifocal and multifocal are routine at Art Optical. Art Optical began as an ophthalmic lens manufacturer, founded in 1931 by Charles J. Anastor. We began making contact lenses in 1958, and ceased production of eyeglasses in 1984 in order to focus exclusively on RGP design and production. The family-owned company has been led by Charles' son Thomas since 1962. Since moving to our current location in 1986, Art Optical has undergone three expansions to accommodate new technology and growth. Today, Art Optical's lab, manufacturing facility and offices occupy more than 36,000 square feet. Nearly 100 associates help supply lenses to practitioners around the world.
