What Is Arriba Juntos?
Arriba Juntos has since its early days teamed up with other community-based-organizations and played an active role in collaborations and partnerships. One Stop San Francisco is a partnership between public and nonprofit agencies that together provide the most complete collection of resources for people with employment-related needs, i.e. businesses, community agencies, and job seekers. The Private Industry Council of San Francisco, Inc. (PIC) is a nonprofit corporation that provides employment, training and research services to employers and job seekers in San Francisco. Arriba Juntos has formed an on-going, substantial partnership with PIC. The San Francisco Information Technology Consortium is made up of public agencies, workforce investment boards, community-based training agencies and community colleges working together to implement a "Career Ladders" approach to prepare and place unemployed and underemployed individuals in high-wage, high-demand positions in the Information Technology (IT) industry. Arriba Juntos provided the first step of the latter by offering computer basic training. The Homeless Employment Collaborative (HEC) is a collaboration of ten community-based nonprofit organizations. The purpose of each HEC agency is to provide a comprehensive and coordinated job training and placement program for San Francisco's homeless population. As part of HEC, Arriba Juntos offers training for automated office skills occupations and job placement. The Vocational Immersion Program (VIP) is a joint program of the San Francisco Department of Human Services (DHS), City College of San Francisco (CCSF,), Arriba Juntos and Catholic Charities that began in 2000. The goal of the program is to offer intensive vocational English-as-a-Second-Language instruction and workplace culture to CalWORKS and PAES participants in order to obtain and advance in employment. Arriba Juntos offers classroom space and computer access as well as individualized, culturally sensitive case management services and placement assistance. Wells Fargo Bank, Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and Arriba Juntos established a partnership to support the Technology Center for Youth and Adults located at Arriba Juntos. Its purpose is to provide the community with better tools to effectively compete in the marketplace. The center includes computing and technology resources and career orientation programs to better the community. For over three years, in collaboration with University of California San Francisco, Arriba Juntos has been able to provide employment services to the disadvantaged individuals of the poorest neighborhoods in San Francisco, such as the Mission District, Bay View/Hunters Point, and Visitation Valley Districts. Arriba Juntos' MUNI Entry Level Training Program (MELT) is a collaborative effort between S.F. Municipal Railways, S.F. Department of Human Services and Arriba Juntos that equips low-income San Francisco residents with the required skills necessary to obtain long-term employment in the transportation industry.
