What Is Apple Farm Service?

The real story of Apple Farm Service started with Henry Apple in his farm’s shop. A farmer with his father’s mechanical abilities, Henry’s reputation to help neighbors with their farm machinery grew fast. He gained national attention in the mid 1940’s after a local newspaper printed a photo of Henry. He was sitting on a forage harvester he constructed with a world war two half track, Massey Harris rear end, Chevy steering axles, and a Gehl two row corn attachment, one of the first self-propelled harvester. Impressed by Henry Apple’s mastery of mechanics, the Gehl company reached out to Mr. Apple requesting to open a new dealership. In 1956 Henry opened the Apple Chopper Service out of his own shop. As time passed the Apple Chopper Service steadily grew. The name officially changed to Apple Farm Service. Henry’s son, Bill, followed in his father’s footsteps, building the second store at Botkins from the ground up in 1985. Henry passed in 1996, leaving Bill Apple as president and CEO. The business quickly grew in the 2010’s. When a turkey barn complex closed across the street, Apple Farm Service purchased the 15 building complex, filling it full with new and used inventory. In 2012 the Covington storefront doubled in size with a new showroom and parts store. The company expanded into Indiana with the purchase of the West College Corner location in 2013. Then in 2015, Apple Farm Service added the Mechanicsburg location. Today the company carries over 120 vendor lines, from Case IH, New Holland, Kubota, Kioti, and dozens more. They stock over 80,000 different parts, and have access to over one million more. While the business has grown substantially from the original shop of Henry Apple, the values from Apple Chopper Service still lays as the foundation for the future of Apple Farm Service.
