What Is America's Grow-a-Row?

America’s Grow-a-Row is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization located in Hunterdon County, New Jersey whose mission is to positively impact as many lives as possible through a volunteer effort of planting, picking, rescuing, and delivering free fresh produce. At America’s Grow-a-Row we: *Provide fresh, healthy produce to those in need *Educate people of all generations about hunger and ways to help *Introduce our youth to farming and healthy eating *Cultivate in tomorrow’s leaders the habit of giving back *Contribute to the sustainability of agriculture Programs and services include: • Growing, Gleaning and Giving: Plant, harvest and rescue, through a volunteer-based effort, fresh fruits and vegetables for donation to those in need. We distribute our fresh produce to hunger relief agencies across New Jersey, in the Lehigh Valley and Philadelphia in Pennsylvania, and to City Harvest in New York City. We also donate directly to local food pantries and set up Free Farm Markets in poverty-stricken urban areas during the harvest season, including Camden, East Orange, Jersey City, Newark, and Morristown. • Volunteer Opportunities and Education: Provide education programs and a meaningful experience for our volunteers with the goal that they continue to participate and even increase their participation level in the effort to eradicate hunger. • Youth Education: Provide engaging nutrition lessons in schools and community centers for at-risk children in low-income areas, as well as classroom lessons for children in higher income areas focused on the health crisis and related health issues. • Grow-a-Row Kids Farm Days: Provide access to our farm for children from low-income areas during the summer months, when they have the opportunity to harvest produce, learn about healthy eating, and play fun outdoor games. • Recipient Volunteer Program: Provide volunteer opportunities for the clients we serve so that they can harvest fresh food for other communities in need.
