For 40 years, the American Refugee Committee has provided humanitarian assistance to millions of refugees and displaced people across the globe. Now, we’re taking a next big step on our journey to do more, to do better by the people we serve – we’re becoming Alight. We’re the same organization, with the same people doing the same critical work – providing health care, clean water, shelter, protection, and economic opportunities to more than 3.5 million people in 17 countries each year. But in solidarity with the people we serve, who are too often defined by a single dark moment in their lives, we’re dropping the label ‘refugee’.
